Dr. Baker is a native of East Tennessee, and greatly influenced by Christian parents and grandparents. In the winter of 1949, he made his own profession of faith in Jesus Christ on his knees in front of fire place that provided the only heat for the home. With both of his parents having to work, he was influenced in particular by his saintly grandmother, upon whose death (1974) he felt compelled to continue the faith and influence demonstrated by his parents and grandparents.
He is married to Joyce A. Gaylor, a native of LaFollette, Tennessee, and the daughter of devout Christian parents. After serving in the U.S. Air Force during Vietnam, Dr. Baker and his wife returned to East Tennessee. They have two children, four grandchildren and one grandchild.
All his degrees are earned: Bachelors in Public Health (BS), a masters (Mph) in health planning administration from the University of Tennessee; and a Masters (MS) and doctorate in theology (Th.D.) from Trinity Seminary.
He is a retired Corporate Benefits Administrator from Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and has served as pastor, interim pastor, bible teacher, radio bible teacher, and hospital chaplain. He is a published composer and author in poetry, essay, and short story. He hopes to continue his writing into the sunset years of his life expounding dthe great bible doctrines that time did not allow during his employment years.
